Creating Traditional High-Quality Sake that Conveys the Heart of the Giver - Aoki Sake Brewing Company

Aoki Sake Brewery was founded in 1831, during the reign of Ienari, the 11th shogun, at the confluence of the Watarase and Tone Rivers in in western Ibaraki Prefecture. Aoki Sake Brewery is a small, family-run business that currently preserves the land and traditions that have been passed down from generation to generation as the only sake brewery in Koga City that produces local sake.
The name of our main brand “Gokeiji”, which means “the greatest joy”, was given by the third family head on the occasion of the marriage of Emperor Taisho with the wish for the prosperity of the Imperial Family and further flourishing of Japan.

Through sake brewing, we would like to pass on the skills of our chief brewer and the sake
culture to future generations as well as let more people feel the blessings of Ibaraki’s nature and our hometown, Koga City, of which we are so proud.

Our Thoughts on Ibaraki Prefecture and Koga City

For the brewing of our representative product “Gokeiji”, we use “Hitachinishiki”, the sake-brewing rice, as well as the yeast produced in Ibaraki Prefecture, and “Fukumaru” and “Ichibanboshi”, the brand rice of Ibaraki which are grown under contract by local farmers Akiba and Nakayama.

In order to give back to Koga City for providing us with abundant water and the bounty of the land, we will continue to strive to produce the highest-quality sake while contributing to the urban development of Ibaraki Prefecture and Koga City with a sense of gratitude to local people who have been supporting our sake brewery.
